Where to now for the Cybercrimes Bill?

Email: warren@ea.law.za
Our latest Webinar on the Cybercrimes Bill obviously raised the question as to when it will be implemented, particularly during the time of the corona virus? While we were expecting that it would have been signed into law at around this time this year, it is clear that the corona virus has put paid that being likely. This is particularly true when you consider that the South African Police Service has additional challenges that no-one could have anticipated.
It is also important to know that the updated Cybercrimes Bill (note it must have the [B6B - 2017] at the bottom of the first page) is still with the Council of Provinces for approval. In particular there are concerns regarding the capacity to implement the Bill and the impact of the search and seizure provisions.
